Barrau exposa le plâtre de Salomé au Salon de 1882, et une version en marbre du sujet au Salon de 1889, tous les deux disparus. Donc cette terre cuite reste le seule version connu d’une œuvre importante par le sculpteur carcassonnais.
Pour deux autres figures de Barrau avec le visage très proche à Salomé voir L’Allégorie de la Ville du Mans (1880), sur la façade ouest de l’hôtel-de-ville de Paris, et une des figures qui comprise le groupe L’Artilleur de Narbonne (1900) au Jardin du Palais du Travail, Narbonne.
English : Barrau exhibited a plaster model of Salomé at the Salon of 1882 and then a marble version of the subject at the Salon of 1889 – both of which are lost. This terracotta is therefore the only known version of an important work by the sculptor from Carcassonne. For two other figures by Barrau with very similar faces to Salomé see the Allegory of the Town of Le Mans on the facade of the Hôtel-de-Ville in Paris, and one of the figures which make up the group The Gunner of Narbonne, in the Garden of the Palace of Work in Narbonne.
